In Laney's room are two teenage closest friends, Skye Blue and Laney Grey. When Dee Williams, Laney's stepmother, stops over to see how things are doing, she reminds her that the guestroom closet needs to be cleaned out. Dee has been chasing her to finish the task for WEEKS. Whether Skye is back or not, Laney is screwed if she doesn't finish the closet TODAY. Laney tries to put off cleaning as soon as Dee departs, but Skye persuades her to do it. Skye is opposed to grounding her friend. Furthermore, if they collaborate, they will do the task quickly! When cleaning, Laney and Skye come across an old journal and learn it belonged to Dee. They start reading from it after some dispute, believing it to be harmless entertainment. However, as they go through the diary, they come across a particularly intimate section in which Dee questions her love for a girl but is too scared to look into it. After being deeply moved and taken aback, Laney and Skye decide to approach Dee. Dee is first a little miffed at them for being so careless about where she left her diary when they bring it to her and confess to having read from it. Dee is astonished to hear that they are aware of her crush, though. Dee gradually lets Skye and Laney into her life, revealing that she wasn't encouraged to go out like the girls are now. She was never able to express her emotions, and she still feels too terrified to do so. But the wall that Dee has built her entire life eventually comes down when Skye and Laney band together and kindly promise to give her all the experiences she has been missing out on.
